Statistical Process Control (SPC) is a quality method to supervise if a process is in state of control and whether it can produce units within given tolerances. The SPC application enables the user to define and monitor control cards. These control cards include visual diagrams that can track shop floor processes in real-time and help to continually improve the process and operational excellence.
What's SPC Application?
How Does It Work?
The configured control cards are available in the control card list pane. Each control card will display the current status to notify the user when deviations are detected in any control card as defined by the control chart calculations. Once a deviation is detected the user can select the control card and further re-view details in each control chart.
Users can assign comments to data points in the control charts. Typically used to comment on data points deviating from defined tolerance limits. Several comments can be made by different users for each data point. Data points with comments are highlighted in the control charts.
Project & My Role
The Problem
The existing user interface posed significant challenges that affected the overall user experience. The navigation system was inconvenient, leading to user frustration and confusion. Outdated visual elements and colors compromised the aesthetic appeal. Additionally, inconsistent interaction patterns across different sections of the interface contributed to a lack of harmony. These issues created an important barrier to user engagement and satisfaction.
My role in the project, While starting this ongoing project, I aimed to create new solutions to the existing challenges. My journey started with diving into insightful articles from different sources, laying the groundwork for an understanding of the project’s details. The existing problems with the user interface spurred a need for change.
While working on the new UI of SPC application, I used the new design system of ABB. This new design system not only helped me to address the existing UI issues but also seamlessly aligned with ABB’s evolving design system.
During the creativity process, I prepared low-fidelity designs and I started collaborative dialogues with stakeholders, team managers, and business analysts. These engagements provided an invaluable opportunity to adjust finely and perfect solutions.
After securing approval for the projected design, I seamlessly transitioned into the implementation phase. Here, my collaboration with developers became instrumental, ensuring a faithful translation of the design into a fully realized product. This end-to-end journey showcased not only my adeptness in design but also my ability to navigate collaborative landscapes, resulting in a project that met and exceeded expectations.
